Born from the need for modern therapy documentation, Mentalyc has developed an AI-driven note-taking platform leveraging advanced language models. With an ever evolving landscape in AI-based mental healthcare, Mentalyc aims to evolve its visual identity—transforming from just a documentation tool into a trusted partner for improved therapy outcomes.

Unpacking the first mental health AI documentation platform
With the demand for therapy surging dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic, therapists and clinicians have found themselves overwhelmed and burdened by the increasing number of patients and clients. There is a concurrent decline in the number of available practitioners in the field meaning the ratio of patients to therapist exceeds the 1:1 scale, each therapist has less time and attention to dedicate to individual clients.
As a result, therapy sessions often risk becoming perfunctory, with therapists feeling pressured to merely check boxes rather than deliver genuine and impactful care to patients and clients alike. This situation raises several critical questions: Are clients truly receiving the help they need and deserve? Is therapy genuinely effective in its current form, or is the traditional model documentation becoming unsustainable?
Mentalyc addresses these and other concerns by providing therapists with groundbreaking AI-driven documentation platform. By significantly reducing the burden of manual note-taking and administrative documentation; Mentalyc allows therapists to fully engage in their sessions, directing their complete attention to their clients and patients. This enhanced focus helps ensure that therapy remains patient-centered and impactful, ultimately leading to more meaningful and measurable therapeutic outcomes.
The Goal
A redesign of the Mentalyc's visual and brand identity was part of a larger overhaul of the brand, improving users perception and the overall brand experience, and ensuring the company stays ahead of the curve amid growing competition in the mental health delivery sector.

Powering a bigger vision for what started out as just a Note-Taking Platform
Mentalyc has an ambitious vision to revolutionise how mental health professionals deliver therapeutic care, this in no way is a simple task. Working closely with the leadership team, I was able dive deep and understand the vision, brand culture, business goals, user community, and brand opportunities. This strategic foundations provided clarity and the internal confidence needed to undergo the redesign process. In order to get started, I carried out the following to gain a better understanding of the brand;
Brand Audit
Stakeholder Interview
Brand Survey
User Interview

Shaping the future of therapy outcomes
Through strategic, verbal and creative visual work, we were able create a visual narrative that told Mentalyc's story to users and what Mentalyc actually helped them achieve in their practice, highlighting the proficiency, accuracy and the ease of use of the product. This efforts helped change the brand narrative and perception users had initially about the product as just a note taking platform.
Our verbal system, reverberated three key words which encapsulated what Mentalyc was seeking to help therapist achieve through their practice; Capture, Focus and Heal. This helped users understand and see the product as more than just a note-taking platform but rather as a partner in delivering efficient mental health care and better outcomes.

Giving Mentalyc an authentic expression
It was important to bring authenticity to the brands design language, bringing a bit of dynamics but also keeping it consistent and recongisable. The brand colour was largely refined, with Pink still serving as the primary brand colour, with a progress from lighter shades to darker shades to give it contrast across various touch points.
The handwritten scribble line was introduced as a visual metaphor for the traditional note-taking process Mentalyc simplifies. It symbolises the manual effort therapists once had to make during sessions—jotting down notes while trying to stay present. By integrating this element into the design language, we honour that past while visually representing the freedom and relief Mentalyc now offers—removing the burden of documentation and giving the brand a renewed, human-centred expression.
